What is a Manufacturing Data Book?
A Manufacturing Data Book, or MDB, is a structured technical handover dossier. It brings together documents relating to the manufacturing and inspection of a product or installation. The required contents and organisation depend on the project's agreements and requirements.
Depending on those requirements, it may include certificates, inspection documents and other quality documentation. An MDB is more than a collection of files: its structure needs to make clear where each document belongs.
Structure, assemble and deliver
MDB Builder supports this document workflow. The responsible parties still need to assess whether its content meets project agreements; using software does not replace that responsibility.
- Build the dossier around a chapter structure.
- Place documents in the relevant parts of the Manufacturing Data Book.
- Assemble the dossier and share it with the parties involved.
- Support review and approval within the same application.
From an ITP to an MDB index with AI
An Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) describes inspection and testing activities within a project. In MDB Builder, you can upload an ITP and have AI read it to create an MDB index automatically.
The generated structure is a starting point for the dossier. Check it for completeness and alignment with project requirements. An unclear or incomplete source document may also lead to an incomplete result.
When to use MDB Builder or custom software
If you need software to assemble and deliver Manufacturing Data Books, explore MDB Builder on its own product website. For a different document process or integrations with your business software, discuss the required setup with BizzBit.
DocBit has a different focus: technical project documentation, revisions, cover sheets, transmittals and PDF annotations. The choice of application depends on the document workflow, rather than just the file format.
